Do you wish to instill in your child a lifelong love of music? Does your child complain about going to piano lessons? Is you child's music teacher too negative or critical? Why not consider the gentle approach to music education!
The Suzuki method, also known as "Talent Education," is the gentle, joyful method of music study developed by the acclaimed Japanese music educator, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Children learn to play an instrument in much the same way that they learn to speak. Unlike other methods, parents are present at the lesson and are very much involved in the child's learning. Also, unlike other methods, children often begin their lessons at age four or younger. Children get a "head start" in learning the literature by listening to recordings of the pieces which are being studied, although music reading is also emphasized.
Students enjoy the lessons and are eager to learn which creates a feeling of confidence and increased self-esteem. Although piano and violin are the most common instruments studied by Suzuki students, the method has expanded to encompass other instruments such as bass, flute and harp. Parents and students alike are excited by this method of study and enjoy the closeness it brings them.
